Fiber to the Home is considered the most powerful form of fiber optic connection: the optical fibers are run all the way into the customer’s apartment or office. The result is a direct, uninterrupted connection with symmetrical transmission speeds. FTTH is particularly used in new construction projects and urban network expansion.

SD Fiber delivers turnkey FTTH projects across Switzerland, including for EWZ in the city of Zurich and for Swisscom. By early 2019, around 25,000 sockets had been installed in Zurich, Winterthur, Emmen, and Zug alone.

Fiber to the Street brings the fiber optic network up to just before the building. This widely used deployment approach enables symmetrical transmission speeds of 200 Mbps and more. For private households, municipalities, and businesses, this means reliable broadband connectivity with high scalability for future requirements.

SD Fiber operates across Switzerland as a general contractor for leading clients such as Cablex and Axians in FTTS deployment, handling all project phases from a single source.

Fiber to the Building (FTTB) goes one step further than FTTS: the fiber optic cables are run directly into the basement or technical room of a multi-dwelling building. From there, the signal is distributed to individual apartments via copper wiring. FTTB is considered a true fiber connection and offers significantly higher bandwidth and stability compared to traditional copper networks.

SD Fiber implements FTTB projects across Switzerland for clients such as Cablex and Axians, taking full responsibility for the complete technical execution.

As a general contractor, SD Fiber covers the full range of fiber optic and communication infrastructure services. Whether for new construction, renovation, or operation, we support projects from feasibility studies and securing all necessary permits and contracts through to ongoing maintenance and fault resolution.

In addition to fiber optic deployment, SD Fiber also installs digital electricity meters as part of smart metering initiatives. These replace analog meters and enable precise, automated energy consumption management, making an important contribution to the energy transition.
