Revitalization of a Historic Building in Lausanne – Sous-Gare District

Project Description

In the historic Sous-Gare district of Lausanne, the emblematic building constructed in 1950 by architect B. Meylan underwent an extensive renovation campaign. This project aimed not only to modernize the building from a technical and qualitative standpoint, but also to restore its prominent place along the M2 metro line, which connects Ouchy to Lausanne train station.

Our Contribution

Commissioned by SD Société Générale de Construction Lausanne S.A., SPIE MTS played a key role in this partial renovation. Our teams took charge of several essential aspects of the works:

• Installation of high-voltage/power circuits
• Installation of a new lighting system
• Upgrade of electrical distribution boards
• Kitchen fitting
• Bathroom modernization

These services were carried out with great care, ensuring the comfort and safety of the residents despite the complexity of working on an occupied site.

Challenges and Issues

One of the main challenges of this project was the need to renovate an occupied building while minimizing disruption to the residents. Balancing the preservation of the architectural heritage with the modernization of technical infrastructure was also a major issue, with the goal of ensuring the building's longevity while respecting its history.
